Evolution Korea
Until recently the Korean scientific community been hesitant to engage with the creationists, fearing that doing so could increase the credibility of the movement. The silence is no longer an option.
The STR has been fighting to eliminate evolution-related content from textbooks, including the discovery that the feathered Archaeopteryx was an ancestor bird. This is only one aspect of how the concept of development has changed.
What is Evolution?
Evolution is a scientific theory that explains the change in the genetic characteristics of living organisms over time. The theory is based on the fact that living organisms adapt to their environment, which can result in changes to genes or even whole genomes. These changes can, over generations lead to the emergence of new species. The predominant theory of evolution is called natural selection, which describes the process that allows those with favorable characteristics live and reproduce more often than those with disadvantageous characteristics. In time, this disparity in reproduction could lead to the emergence of completely new species.
The word "evolution" comes from the Latin word for unraveling or revealing, however the concept itself has had many different meanings since it took form in the fields of science and in other fields. Early evolutionists like Erasmus Darwin (Charles’s grandfather) and Jean Baptiste de Lamarck believed that species were predetermined to change into another species. The term transmutation was coined by Lamarck's student embryologist Etienne Geoffroy Saint-Hilaire, to describe this idea. Charles Lyell, in his Principles of Geology, published in 1833, attacked the idea of evolution and borrowed the term from Geoffroy's student.
Evolutionary biologists define it more recently as a process through which living creatures develop traits to improve their chances of living or producing offspring. As time passes, genetic variation can cause a population to develop new physical characteristics or biological functions. Natural selection is the mechanism that triggers the most evolutionary changes. Other changes that aren't genetic, such as an increase in muscle mass due to exercise or diet, cannot be considered to be evolutionary because they don't pass on to the next generation.
Despite the fact that evolution has withstood the test of time and thousands of scientific tests however, creationists have taken advantage of the notion that the theory is controversial and argue that it should not be taught in school. In South Korea, creationists have gained a few victories in their efforts to eliminate evolution from textbooks for high school and have also gotten rid of any references to the evolutionary history of humans and the Archaeopteryx, a feathered dinosaur that is thought to be the ancestral bird's ancestor.
Why is Evolution Important?
Evolution explains how Earth and all living species came to be. It is also one of the pillars of biology and helps scientists to understand how living things function and grow. Evolution also shows the connections between species. Scientists study evolution to better comprehend nature and make important discoveries, such as the development of new treatments.
The evidence for evolution of biological species is overwhelming. No other scientific theory explains more about the universe as the life on this planet. It has been rigorously studied and verified for many years. Many people, even some religious leaders, are in favor of the scientific theory. It is essential to remember that evolutionary biology does not conflict with religious beliefs as it only focuses on physical objects, events and processes.
Many religious people have found a way to reconcile evolution with their beliefs. Some Christians for instance, believe that God created everything through evolution and that humans share an ancestry that is shared with other animals.
It is important that science educators advocate for teaching evolution. In some countries around the world there is a growing anti-evolutionist sentiment. In the United States some states have taken measures to restrict teaching of evolution. In South Korea, a group known as the Society for Textbook Revise, an offshoot from the Korea Association for Creation Research (KAC) is a campaign for textbooks that cover the evolution of horses and their avian ancestor Archaeopteryx.
While these are troubling changes, it's important to remember that the evidence for evolution is overwhelming. The evidence comes from a diverse variety of sources, including fossils, genetic studies, and the behavior of living organisms. The evidence is also independently verified by other scientists.
The majority of scientists supports the theory of evolution. The reasons for this support vary. Scientists study evolution to discover practical solutions for example, such as the development of medicines or developing new medicines, while others are driven by the desire to improve the lives of animals and plant species, typically to benefit humans. Some scientists are simply curious, while others have an intense belief in God.
What is Creationism?
Creationists are people who believe that God created the universe and everything within it. They also believe that the Bible is the word of God and should be taken as such. Although Creationists may not all be Christian but many are. Creationists typically fall into one of two categories: Young Earth creationists (YEC) and old earth creationists (OEC).
The most common type of creationist is known as the YEC. They believe that God created the universe in exactly the manner described in the Bible. YECs believe that the biblical account of the creation's six days is true, and that the universe and life on Earth was created only recently.

OECs aren't as popular However, their beliefs are just as intense as those of YECs. OECs believe the universe and Earth are billions of years old, and that evolution is a lie.
Both forms of creationism deny that scientific theories such as natural selection and abiogenesis could explain the origin of life on Earth. They claim that evolution is impossible, because it would require miracles. The founders of modern scientific thought resisted miracles in fear that they could lose their credibility.
Some creationists accept naturalistic evolution and special creation, and call their view “theistic evolution." This is sometimes called "continuous creationism" or "evolution from the original species." In this theory, God creates the original species and then allows them to change over time. These evolutionary changes eventually will result in new species that are similar to the original.
Other creationists believe that God created the universe and all living things during a single event, referred to as the Great Flood. These creationists hold that all the original species were created at the same moment and then slowly evolved. They reject the idea of abiogenesis and assert that self-replicating life cannot arise from nonliving matter.
In 에볼루션 사이트 , the creationists oppose teaching evolution at schools. Numerous professional organizations, such as the National Science Teachers Association and the Association for Science Teacher Education support this position, as do the American Anthropological Association and the Geological Society of America. Some scientists and educational institutions, however, are more flexible and permit both evolution and creationism to be incorporated into their curricula.
What exactly is Creationism in Korea?
When people think of creationism, many of them think of the United States. South Korea also has an anti-evolution group. Publishers of high-school textbooks announced recently that they would eliminate references to evolution in their editions. The Society for Textbook Revise, an independent body that is an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research (KACCR) is the one who has led this campaign. The STR has achieved its first victory by removing from textbooks the evidence of the evolution and ancestor of the avian, the Archeopteryx. The focus is now on the removal of excerpts from Darwin's infamous finch research and on human evolution, too.
STR claims that it has the support of around 4,000 families and individuals. Its mission is to cut out what it believes is the "atheist materialism" that creates a bleak worldview for students. It also seeks to counter the influence of American Creationists in the nation. A survey of biology students teachers found that about half do not believe in the concept of evolution. The causes aren't clear but could be due to religion and the absence of full-time creation scientists across the country.
The KACR has achieved a number of things through its lectures and seminar events. It publishes a bimonthly magazine, Creation, and has published books. One of these was a textbook on natural science that had a creationist perspective. This sparked an interest in college communities. In 1991, a professor along with a minister began teaching Creation Science at one university. It is still taught in the present.
On August 6-7 1993, KACR hosted a second International Symposium on Creation Research. It was held in conjunction with the opening of the World Expo in Daejeon. Six lecturers from around the world including ICR's John Morris, Duane Gish and Steven Austin spoke to audiences of a few thousand. KACR and its members have been delivering lectures on creation science at major seminaries too. KACR plans to establish a Creation Science Education Center in the future.
